Este módulo representa la expansión de los pueblos caribes en el Mar Caribe, mostrando su organización social, sus constantes enfrentamientos y su relación con el entorno marítimo. La escena se simboliza como una gran olla hirviente, reflejando las continuas guerras entre tribus, donde el honor y la valentía eran la base del prestigio de los guerreros. El mapa central ilustra las rutas de expansión y comercio de los caribes a lo largo de las costas, así como sus procesos de migración hacia nuevos territorios, donde se enfrentaron a otras culturas como los Taínos. Estas migraciones tenían su origen en regiones como el Alto Xingú, en el actual Brasil, y se realizaban principalmente por ríos y el mar, evidenciando su carácter de cultura acuática.
El módulo también ubica a Kalamary dentro del mundo caribe, destacando su presencia en la costa de la actual Colombia, especialmente en la región de Cartagena, donde aún perduran vestigios culturales y nombres de origen indígena en la bahía y sus alrededores.
The expansion of the Carib peoples
This module depicts the expansion of the Carib peoples in the Caribbean Sea, illustrating their social organization, their constant conflicts, and their relationship with the maritime environment. The scene is symbolized as a large boiling pot, reflecting the continuous wars between tribes, where honor and bravery were the foundation of a warrior’s prestige. The central map illustrates the Caribs’ routes of expansion and trade along the coasts, as well as their migration to new territories, where they encountered other cultures such as the Taínos. These migrations originated in regions such as the Upper Xingu, in present-day Brazil, and were carried out primarily via rivers and the sea, highlighting their aquatic way of life.
The module also situates Kalamary within the Caribbean world, highlighting its presence on the coast of present-day Colombia, especially in the Cartagena region, where cultural vestiges and names of indigenous origin still endure in the bay and its surroundings.
