El mundo de los conquistadores españoles
Este módulo, diseñado como un castillo medieval, representa la tradición militar y cultural que los conquistadores españoles trajeron durante la conquista de América. Destaca el papel de los tercios españoles, reconocidos por su disciplina y poder en Europa, así como la figura de los hidalgos, miembros de la nobleza que seguían estrictos códigos de honor.
También se refleja la consolidación de España como nación bajo los Reyes Católicos y la influencia de la religión católica como base del derecho de conquista. Dentro del módulo se exhiben los escudos de Castilla y Aragón, junto con el de Carlos I de España, quien gobernaba en la época de la fundación de Cartagena.
Además, se incluyen piezas originales de armamento, así como reproducciones históricas como el diario de Cristóbal Colón y documentos que sustentaron legalmente la expansión del imperio español. La exhibición se complementa con una maqueta de la Nao Santa María, símbolo de los viajes que marcaron el inicio de la historia colonial en América.
The world of the spanish conquistadors
This module, designed to resemble a medieval castle, represents the military and cultural traditions that the Spanish conquistadors brought with them during the conquest of the Americas. It highlights the role of the Spanish tercios, renowned in Europe for their discipline and power, as well as the figure of the hidalgos, members of the nobility who adhered to strict codes of honor.
It also reflects Spain’s consolidation as a nation under the Catholic Monarchs and the influence of the Catholic religion as the basis for the right of conquest. Inside the module, the coats of arms of Castile and Aragon are displayed, along with that of Charles I of Spain, who ruled at the time of Cartagena’s founding.
In addition, the exhibition features original pieces of weaponry, as well as historical reproductions such as Christopher Columbus’s journal and documents that legally underpinned the expansion of the Spanish empire. The exhibition is complemented by a model of the Santa María, a symbol of the voyages that marked the beginning of colonial history in the Americas.
